WHEAT FOODS COUNCIL LAUNCHES “GRAIN TALK” BLOG
PARKER, Colo. (Sept. 27, 2006) – The oldest and leading grain industry association, the Wheat Foods Council, today launches a blog entitled “Grain Talk with Marcia Scheideman.” Marcia Scheideman M.S., R.D., president of the Wheat Foods Council and blog author will publish bimonthly entries for the first ever blog solely devoted to grains at http://grainblog.wheatfoods.org/.

“Grains are vital to the American economy in addition to being a critical dietary staple,” says Scheideman. “The purpose of the online platform is to provide consumers, health professionals and industry with clear, relevant and fact-based information with the goal of debunking myths, showcasing credible science and providing insights gathered from the grain industry in its entirety.”

Sample blog topics include:
o Impact of the reduced 2006 winter wheat harvest
o Use of non-traditional wheat varieties in new food products
o School menus and the integration of the 2005 Dietary Guidelines
o Enrichment and its positive impact on public health

Scheideman applies her own experience as well as that of the Wheat Foods Council’s diverse membership, which includes wheat producers, millers, bakers, state wheat commissions and manufacturers. Scheideman has completed nearly 20 years of nutrition related work and is an active member of the American Dietetic Association, American Association of Cereal Chemists, Dietary Guidelines Alliance and Society of Nutrition Education.

“I want to educate and offer unique insights and ideas about grain topics ranging from increased interest in the glycemic index to how reduced wheat yields and quality impact the industry,” says Scheideman. “We hope that ‘Grain Talk’ will encourage dialogue among a diverse audience about nutrition, agriculture, ingredient innovation and more.”

“Grain Talk” is made possible by Archer Daniels Midland Company, a Wheat Foods Council member and one of the world’s largest agricultural processors of soybeans, corn, wheat and cocoa.
