Wheat Foods Council Announces 2009/2010 Executive Committee
PARKER, Colo. (July 27, 2009) The Wheat Foods Council recently appointed Betsy Faga, president of North American Millers’ Association as its 2009/2010 board chair. Outgoing chair Hans Hayden, wheat producer and Idaho Wheat commission representative, will continue to serve the board as past chair, David Moore, wheat producer and Texas Wheat Commission representative as Vice Chair, along with Debi Rogers, Ph.D., instructor and curriculum development at American Institute of Baking, Manhattan, Kans., as treasurer will also serve on the executive committee.

Faga has a long history with the millers’ association. NAMA was established in April 1998 as a result of the merger of four separate associations representing different types of grain milling. Prior to the merger, Ms. Faga held a variety of positions with two of the merged organizations -- Protein Grain Products International and the American Corn Millers Federation. She represented the associations before the administration and congress, developed research activities, and traveled extensively overseas in connection with the industry’s participation in food assistance programs.

“Betsy has a long history with our organization and her expertise will prove a great asset to our leadership with her as board chair,” said Lynn Holly, Interim Director of the Wheat Foods Council. “In addition, the Council saw great success with the urban wheat field under Hans Hayden’s leadership, so we are proud to have him continue on in another capacity.”

During the June board meeting, the Council recapped the successful urban wheat field program and began planning for the next step, taking it to a virtual online program. This experience will truly emphasize the “farm to fork” capabilities for which the Wheat Foods Council is known.

In 2009/2010 the Council will leverage the urban wheat field while continuing to educate the public, media and influencers alike about the health benefits of grain-based foods. The Council prides itself in being a unified voice for the grain industry, and will continue to develop programming to benefit all facets of the industry.
